Highest-Leverage Change
The Ramsey homepage has 8 equally-weighted product tiles and a hero with no human face and no primary CTA button. For a brand whose entire authority comes from one man's personal story, the hero should lead with that story. 'I went bankrupt at 28. Here's what I learned.' Everything else follows.
Opening Line for the Video Audit
“Dave Ramsey's homepage headline is 'Live Like No One Else' — no face, no button, no problem named. Then eight identical tiles for eight different things. I audited it through the Plainspoken Blueprint this morning and I want to show you what the most famous personal finance brand in America is getting wrong on its own homepage.”
What We Found
The actual headline is 'Live Like No One Else' — the brand's long-running tagline. It's a promise, not a problem. A person who just found out their spouse ran up $40,000 in credit card debt doesn't want to hear about living differently. They want to know if someone can help them right now. The tagline works for loyal fans. It loses new visitors.
The sub-headline says 'Get expert advice, free tools and proven plans to help you manage your finances, work and relationships.' Work and relationships are Ramsey's newer territory — he's expanded well beyond money. But leading with 'work and relationships' dilutes the one thing Ramsey is world-famous for: getting out of debt.
Below the hero, eight equal tiles appear: Get Out of Debt, Buy/Sell Real Estate, Create a Budget, Find Your Insurance, Start Investing, Plan for Retirement, File Your Taxes, Shop the Store. They're visually identical — same size, same weight, same importance. A first-time visitor who came because they're in debt has to scan all eight to find their tile.
Eight tiles of equal visual weight means eight competing CTAs below the fold. Above the fold: no clear primary button. 'Sign In' appears in the top right but there's no primary action for a first-time visitor who just wants to get started. The hero has no button.
Dave Ramsey's face appears at the bottom of the homepage viewport with his team and other personalities from the show. The hero itself — 'Live Like No One Else' over a blue background — has no human face at all. For a brand built entirely on one person's story (went bankrupt at 28, paid it all off, built an empire), the founder should be in the hero.
